RFS delivers another first with ultra-high-performance, dual-polarized microwave antennas for the 6 GHz frequency range
Meriden, CT, June 23, 2011 – After being first-to-market with tri-band, dual-polarized microwave antennas for the 6 GHz frequency range, Radio Frequency Systems (RFS), the global wireless and broadcast infrastructure specialist, today announced it is also first-to-market with ultra-high-performance, tri-band, dual-polarized microwave antennas for the 6 GHz frequency range. The ultra-high-performance microwave antennas guarantee coverage across the lower 6 GHz band (5.9 to 6.4 GHz), the upper 6 GHz band (6.4 to 6.875 GHz) and the unlicensed band (5.725 to 5.85 GHz).
These highly adaptable microwave antennas are ideal for operators and enterprises in the United States, giving them the flexibility and capacity to meet rapidly-evolving and diverse microwave backhaul requirements. With high cross polarization discrimination (XPD), improved radiation patterns and improved front to back ratios, the new antennas are particularly well suited to meeting the demands of congested urban environments where interference is often a challenge.
“With the announcement of our ultra-high-performance microwave antennas, we are very pleased to deliver on our promise of continuous innovation to help our customers quickly adapt to their evolving environments,” says Asad Zoberi, RFS’ North America Product Manager for Microwave Antenna Systems. “The antennas’ combination of ultra-high-performance, tri-band support and dual polarization give RFS customers significant advantages in terms of capabilities, coverage and capacity for maximum flexibility.”
Guaranteed coverage and performance across the 6 GHz frequency range means RFS customers can change bands without changing antennas. For example, they can switch from the lower 6 GHz band to the upper 6 GHz band as new Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approvals are obtained in the U.S. They can also turn on the service immediately, using the unlicensed band with confidence while awaiting FCC approval and for hot standby configurations where the main radio is in the unlicensed band.
With dual polarization, RFS’ microwave antennas meet the needs of operators and industry players, such as electric utilities, oil and gas operators, railway operators, healthcare organizations and state and local governments as they look to keep pace with growing demands and evolve to LTE and 4G. Customers effectively gain two antennas in one and can stack multiple channels on each polarization to increase capacity without fear of interference between polarizations.
RFS’ new ultra-high-performance microwave antennas are available in six, eight and ten-foot diameter configurations. They also feature a spun backring design for mechanical stability and secure links. To simplify project management and reduce costs, RFS’ complete antenna systems and waveguides are shipped from a single U.S. location.
