RFS leads Digital TV segment in Argentina supplying radiant systems to INVAP
Phase 1B of official Argentine project about to begin
São Paulo, 7 October, 2011 – after the successful implementation of digital TV stations in Argentina, Radio Frequency Systems (RFS), the global wireless and broadcast infrastructure specialist, has been chosen for Phase 1B of Project INVAP, which includes 23 more sites. The first phase of the project 1A was concluded in August 2011; the total project aims to achieve digital TV coverage in the entire Argentine territory.
Phase 1A of the official Project for the implementation of digital TV in Argentina began in May 2010, and involved the installation of 52 transmission stations, each with two PHP (panels with horizontal polarization) antennas, 56% of which were supplied by RFS. A total of 58 RFS antennas, of 12, 14 or 16 panels, were distributed throughout the country. Phase 1B is expected to cover 23 more sites.
RFS presented a solution fully customized to the needs of INVAP. RFS presented two different polarization technologies for the antennas. Phase 1A used traditional horizontal polarization panels, while Phase 1B will use elliptical polarization technology, which allows for better reception in mobile TV.
RFS, which has business units in several Latin American cities - Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Lima and México, and a plant located in Embu das Artes, São Paulo, has MACH Electronics as its partner in Argentina and negotiated the project through them. MACH also supplied the radiant systems - antennas, cables, connectors, pressure vessels and accessories, and the integration of metal structures. “It made no sense to bring the heavy structures from Australia since it would make the Project much more expensive; working with MACH gave us a strategic positioning”, says Renato França, director of Strategic Industries RFS.
Among the technologies chosen by the Argentine government for transmission was that of NEC, who made the integration with its equipment. “NEC is a global partner for RFS and fully supported us in the INVAP Project”, adds the director. RFS’ combiners that were used have high performance filters specially developed for digital TV. With these coaxial cavity filters, it was possible to meet the critical mask requirements from the standard ISDB-T with only 6 poles, in other words, using two poles less than traditional solutions, which results in better performance from the system.
RFS also supplied air dielectric coaxial cables, from the HELIFLEX line, which allow excellent electrical performance, superior to other cables on the market in its category, with lower loss and higher power. Each station received two 4-inch feeder cables with approximately 160 meters/feeder.
RFS’ participation in the Argentine project positions the company as absolute leader in the South cone, following their implementation of digital TV systems for major Brazilian broadcasters. “The market should continue to grow – not with projects of this size, but oriented to the main private TV channels- and RFS is ready to serve both large and small broadcasters”, concludes the executive.
