RFS presents its RF infrastructure solutions for sports events at Futurecom
São Paulo, September 13, 2011 – At Futurecom 2011 in Sao Paulo, Radio Frequency Systems, the global wireless and broadcast infrastructure specialist, will present its solutions and deep experience in major events requiring wireless communication and shared networks. Focusing on the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games, RFS aims to reaffirm its technological partnership with local operators and OEMs with products and services for network infrastructure, not only in the telecommunications segment but also in utilities such as transportations, energy, oil & gas.
With massive sporting events on the horizon, the company, which has extensive experience in indoor shared networks, foresees a need for wireless infrastructure in Brazil.
According to Marcos Wrobel, RFS Telecommunications Director for Brazil, RFS meets three requirements that will be mandatory for suppliers of network infrastructure technology: a great deal of experience in large indoor coverage projects, experience in 4G network solutions with LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology (Brazilian operators are expected to begin bidding for LTE frequencies in 2012) and, last but not least, expertise in developing shared networks projects. “RFS is ready to supply the infrastructure demand for mobile networks in Brazil, necessary to support the realization of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games in 2016”, he adds.
“RFS has shown considerable know-how in providing indoor solutions, vital for wireless communications in indoor spaces, such as metro and train stations, airports, hotels and tunnels. That is what Brazil needs in terms of infrastructure”, adds Renato França, Director Strategic Industries.
One of the many projects already undertaken by RFS for major sporting events is the Olympic Stadium in Athens, built for the 2004 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. RFS was contracted to supply the RF distribution system for indoor coverage and outdoor mobile telephony.
Another important project was completed by RFS in the Maracanã Complex in Rio de Janeiro for the Pan-American Games in 2007. The company was responsible for supplying an RF system for five indoor spaces (Maracanã Complex, Rio Centro Convention Center, Miécimo, Autodrome and the João Havelange Complex), to be used by two different mobile operators.
Besides the sports complexes, RFS indoor solutions are used in Brazil and worldwide in shopping centers, corporate buildings, tunnels, airports, universities, oil and gas platforms, etc.
RFS’ experience in delivering advanced RF solutions for the indoor wireless coverage of major sports events applies to all regions of the world where more and more giant-size sports events and venues require a reliable and global RF partner such as RFS.
Major indoor coverage installation
At its booth at Futurecom, based on the theme of major sporting events, RFS will exhibit its wireless indoor solutions, which includes products like the RADIAFLEX family of radiating cables and services such as Project development, site survey and radio frequency (RF) projects.
In Brazil, the company was chosen to implement 2G and 3G indoor coverage in a space of 800,000 square meters comprising the offices of the Government of Minas Gerais. The space, developed with an investment of €430M from the state government, spans the five corporate buildings of the Administrative City of Minas Gerais (CAMG), bringing together several public organs in one unique space. This is the largest indoor wireless coverage project in the country, and required the cooperation of the four main Brazilian mobile operators.
