Far
beneath the city of Rio de Janeiro, commuters on the citys two-line
metro-system now enjoy the best of cellular call qualitythanks to
Radio Frequency Systems RADIAFLEX radiating cable. Almost 20 kilometres
of RFS ultra-wideband RLKU series RADIAFLEX cable has been installed along
the metro tunnels, providing extensive underground cellular coverage for
operator Telefonica Celular.
Owned and operated by Opportrans Concessão Metroviária S.A.,
the Metrô Rio commenced operations in 1979 as a simple five kilometre
underground service between Glória and Praça Onze. Today,
it provides Rio de Janeiro commuters with a 37-kilometre transport system
linking the beautiful beaches of Copacabana south of the city to the city
centre, then out to Pavuna to the far north-west of the city.
Metrô Rio comprises two linesLine 1, which is entirely underground
and runs from Copacabana to Saens Peña; and Line 2, which links
with Line 1 at Estácio, runs underground a few kilometres to Praça
Onze, then continues above ground to Pavuna.
