Three design tools
The RFS System Design Wizard comprises three separate design tools (see box stories) all accessed via conventional web browser software:
• The Base Station Wizard, for cellular base station design
• The Microwave Wizard, for multi-site microwave link design
• The BDA Wizard, for in-building RF system design
The Wizard utilizes advanced software technology to create a menu-driven procedure that takes the user through the process of selecting components that range from the antenna to the radio jumper. A ‘hotlink’ key appears at the completion of each element selection stage, providing access to the selected element’s complete WebXPress data sheet.
Once the system design is complete, the designer is presented with a ‘System Summary Sheet’ listing the selected components and the total system’s key performance parameters, such as effective radiative power (ERP), total system loss, voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) and system efficiency for a given radio power.
At this point, the Wizard provides a detailed bill of material (BOM) describing the complete RF system. Once the BOM has been developed, it may be saved in the user’s workspace for future reference or editing, or may be faxed or e-mailed to RFS for customized pricing.

Easy access…for free!
Access to the RFS System Design Wizard is cost-free and straightforward. Simply visit the RFSworld website at www.rfsworld.com, then click on ‘Support’ followed by ‘Software Solutions’. The user then requests a user name and password from RFS by completing a brief registration form. On approval, you’ll be e-mailed confirmation that you have access to the System Design Wizard on-line configuration software.
