RFS and AD Soluções Bring Wireless Indoor Coverage to One of the Largest Distribution Centers in Brazil
São Paulo, Brazil, April 28, 2021 – Radio Frequency Systems (RFS), a global designer and manufacturer of total-package solutions for wireless and broadcast infrastructure, today announced that it partnered with Brazilian engineering solutions company, AD Soluções, to bring wireless indoor coverage to one of the largest distribution centers in Brazil. The massive deployment covers 56,000 square meters (602,700 sq feet) of indoor space across 3 buildings, and is based on RFS’ world-renowned RADIAFLEX® radiating cables.
A customized wireless solution for each building
The wireless communications solutions in the 3 buildings rely on a total of 5 km (3.1 miles) of RADIAFLEX cables, and were fully customized to support the unique configuration and operations in each building.
“Because each of the 3 buildings that comprise the distribution center serves a different purpose and has different communications requirements, we adapted the Wi-Fi solution design for each environment,” says Ricardo Daguer, CEO of AD Soluções.
The building that serves as the warehouse is a prime example of the tailored approach. To increase capacity, the aisle width between shelving units is only 1.8 meters (6 ft). The combination of the narrow aisles and the 14-meter (46 ft) ceiling makes it very difficult to guarantee the high-quality wireless communications needed to support the fully digital warehouse environment and automated scanners that accelerate item retrieval. Digital solutions are essential for businesses to increase operational efficiency, and to save time and money. As IoT, automation and digital trends evolve, reliable wireless technology plays a key role in supporting migration to new operating models.
To resolve the challenge, a RADIAFLEX-based 4x4 MIMO solution was designed and deployed. In addition to guaranteeing complete coverage within the warehouse, the innovative solution meant the active equipment could be installed at a height of only 1.2 meters (4 ft) rather than at roof level, where temperatures can reach 70° C (158° F). Installing the equipment at the lower height will extend its lifespan and allow maintenance to be easily performed with no need to stop warehouse operations.
